If your teen is struggling with their mental health, our Adolescent IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) offers the care they need while still living at home. Based in Laguna Hills, California, we help teens from across the state with online support designed just for them. Our program supports adolescents facing issues like anxiety disorder, mood disorder, personality disorder, or bipolar disorder, and may include services such as dialectical behavior therapy, art therapy, or coping and stress management skills.

Our Adolescent IOP gives teenagers a safe, supportive place to heal. It is more than traditional once-a-week individual therapy. Teens meet with our expert clinician care team several times per week to get the support they need—without having to leave school or home. Each patient may work on emotional dysregulation, peer support, social skills, distress tolerance, anger management, and life skills through structured activities and mental health treatment plans. This program may also support those at risk of substance abuse, eating problems, panic disorder, or suicidal ideation.

What Is an Adolescent IOP?

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a special level of care for teens who need more help than traditional outpatient therapy but don’t need to stay in a hospital or inpatient program. Our Adolescent IOP is fully online, so teens can get mental health treatment from home while still going to school and doing daily activities. We support adolescents with challenges related to anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, bipolar disorder, or personality disorders, using approaches like dialectical behavior therapy, coping skills development, and psychology-based care.

Teens in our program attend 3–4 hours of therapy on multiple days per week. This gives them more support while letting them stay in their regular routines. The program helps build social skills, manage mood, and address issues like stress, substance abuse, eating concerns, and panic symptoms. Led by licensed clinicians and supported by health care providers, our IOP focuses on structured, skill-based care designed to help each patient grow in a safe and supportive environment.

Who Needs an Adolescent IOP?

Our IOP is made for teens who are struggling with:

  • Mood disorders like Bipolar disorder
  • Anxiety disorders and performance-related anxiety
  • Depression and self-injurious behavior
  • Substance use disorder or teens with substance use
  • Emotional outbursts or aggressive behavior
  • Avoidance of people and intense emotions
  • Behavioral health disorders and impulsive behaviors

If your teen has a mental health disorder that affects their daily life, an IOP may be the best next step in their mental health journey.

What to Expect in Our Online Adolescent IOP

We create an individualized program for each teen. After an intake assessment by phone, our team of behavioral health care professionals builds a customized mental health treatment plan for your child. Each patient receives support designed to improve coping, reduce distress, and address mood or anxiety disorders.

Your teen will get:

  • Individual therapy sessions each week led by licensed clinicians

  • Group therapy with other adolescents (small group sizes focused on peer support and emotional regulation)

  • Family therapy sessions and active family involvement for improved attachment and communication

  • Support from board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists trained in psychology, dual diagnosis, and behavior care

  • Access to our multidisciplinary treatment team, including providers trained in dialectical behavior therapy, art therapy, and stress management

We also provide medication management services when needed, using safe and monitored approaches for bipolar disorder, depression, generalized anxiety disorder, or emotional dysregulation.

Teens usually attend our IOP for 8 to 10 weeks, depending on their needs and progress. Each program focuses on building life skills, addressing underlying root causes, and helping youth succeed at home, in school, and in their relationships.

When Is an Adolescent IOP the Right Choice?

An IOP may be the right level of mental health treatment if:

  • Your teen needs more than weekly therapy to manage anxiety, mood disorder, or emotional dysregulation

  • They’re stepping down from inpatient or partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) and need continued outpatient program support

  • They’ve had a psychiatric evaluation showing symptoms of bipolar disorder, personality disorder, or dual diagnosis conditions

  • There’s a rise in behaviors affecting school, home, or peer relationships, including aggression, social struggles, or stress

It’s also helpful for teens transitioning from higher levels of care who are ready for step-down services, including those with histories of substance abuse, panic disorder, or care through the emergency department or primary care referrals.

Life Inside the Program

We offer a daily schedule that includes:

  • Individual sessions
  • Group therapy
  • Creative expression
  • Life skills training
  • Guidance for time management and emotional regulation

Our online format fits into your teen’s daily and extracurricular activities, allowing a better quality of life.
