What Is Insomnia?
Insomnia is a common sleep disorder. Teens with insomnia may have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or getting back to sleep. This can lead to daytime sleepiness, poor focus, and mood problems. Some teens have short-term insomnia (it lasts a few days or weeks), while others may struggle with chronic insomnia that lasts for months.
Symptoms of insomnia include:
- Trouble falling asleep
- Waking up often during the night
- Waking up too early
- Feeling tired during the day
- Mood swings or irritability
- Trouble focusing in school
